Running the Race
Isn’t nice to have a block of time to simply pray and think and reflect? I really enjoyed our recent extended reflection time. One of the big things that hit me is how my priorities tend to fall. I wish they were God #1, family #2 and so on, but often they get all shuffled around with God getting squeezed in when I have time.
Have you ever trained for anything? I am preparing to run in another half marathon at the end of April. With that comes daily running of various miles and the occasional rest day. Last Sunday, as I reflected, this training came to mind because I realized that last year, I rarely missed a training day. Rain, sleet, snow or wind didn’t stop me. That doesn’t mean I ran outside all the time, but I found a way to get my training in for the day. I had a goal that I wanted to make, so I trained and trained. So on Sunday, I asked myself, am I training as hard in my spiritual life as I do for these races? Do I pray through the “wind, rain and snow” or do I hit the snooze button and then only leave time enough for a shower and quick bite before heading to work? If I miss my quiet time in the morning do I make time somewhere else throughout the day, or do I simply hope for a better day tomorrow?
So my goal this year is to not only train hard for the half marathon, but to train with passion in my spiritual “race”. The spiritual race is often long and hard, but thankfully God does not ask us to run our own race, but to run with Him!!
I look forward to what 2007 has in store for me, you and the[living]room!
